The discovery is crisp and legible. It is also useless until we admit what the field refuses to examine—the unspoken conviction that body mass predicts evolutionary viability, social structure. Cognitive capacity.
This conviction collapses the moment you examine Paranthropus itself. Paranthropus boisei had a heavier, more robust skeleton than Homo habilis, its smaller contemporary—and Paranthropus boisei went extinct while Homo habilis didn't.
The standard explanation is that Paranthropus failed because it was overspecialized, too dependent on certain plant foods, too inflexible when climate shifted. The real explanation is that nobody knows. We are constructing narratives from bone fragments and footprints, and we have dressed up our ignorance as measurement.
