Those iridescent oil-slick colors, the fractaled geometries spreading through the landscape like a very expensive mold — the alien intelligence isn't trying to conquer. It's curating, applying a filter to Earth and calling it transformation, and the people in the story die defending a world that's already halfway convinced the old version is obsolete.

It shows what we actually want when we strip away the lying — total remake, complete erasure of the original, transformation as transcendence. The scariest future isn't one where something destroys us, but one where we help it happen because the new version looks better in the light.
