The Missing Conversation

Two people made something together, then stopped speaking to each other, then announced they're working together again.

Benjamin Raab and Deric A.

No statement explained what fractured. No account revealed why they split or whether the thing that broke it is fixed. Or whether they've just agreed to work around it.

The silence that breaks reunions

When Muzafer Sherif brought two groups of boys to Robbers Cave State Park in 1954 to study intergroup conflict, he found something counterintuitive. The boys didn't stop fighting because they sat in the same room and talked things through, but because they had to cooperate on a task neither group could solve alone. The groups that succeeded didn't do so by pretending the earlier hostility never happened. They did it by developing a new shared structure that made the old conflict irrelevant to the work. The past remained, and the work moved forward anyway.

A partnership doesn't reunite because the old problems vanished. It reunites because one side finally admits what the actual problem was.

Raab and Hughes have announced they're back, but they have not said what split them or what's different. Without honesty about what you endured, you're not building a new structure. You're repeating the old one and hoping the audience won't notice the fault line.
