Power abhors a vacuum more than it abhors a barrier. Disney is not worried about TikTokers using its content anymore because enough of them already do. By licensing it officially, Disney transforms piracy into permission and piracy into violation in a single legal move.

The real asymmetry is invisible until you ask who decides. TikTokers now have access Disney permits, which means Disney has leverage over which creators thrive and which ones get legal threats. Gary Glitter appeared in court because someone decided he no longer deserved the stage. The difference between platform and punishment is often just a line someone drew.

The next wave of creative work will be built entirely inside permission structures owned by corporations that can change the rules at lunch. Every creator who celebrates access today is unknowingly voting for a system where access is revocable, measurable, and profitable for everyone but them.
Disney just handed TikTokers permission to use its films.
What looked like generosity is actually a control mechanism wearing a friendliness mask. When a massive company decides which creators can use its content and which cannot, it is not opening a door so much as choosing which people get to walk through it.
We mistake the ability to participate for the right to participate, and by the time we notice the difference, the walls have already been built around us.
